About Us
A fishing fanatic since childhood, Robert O'Bryant founded Mahogany Sports Fishing Club (MSFC) in 1994, a for-profit organization. Once the news of his venture spread among his peers in Southern Florida, membership grew from ten members to several hundred within a couple of months. Although a newcomer to the Southern states of the East Coast, he took the opportunity in stride and worked hard to become one of many fixtures by the oceans, lakes, and even streams.
By 1997, he began working at a local newspaper to hone his skills in the publications and media world. On April 1, 1998, Robert launched his first issue of Mahogany Sports Fishing Club Newspaper which is published monthly. Our newsletter informs members of upcoming events, results of past events, articles on fishing and boating and motivational writing by various highly-skilled outdoor professionals.
According to Robert, "Not only did I start that year off with a bang as promised, but I'm looking toward the club's future role in S. Florida as the growth of Mahogany Sports Club continues." Fueled by his dream and unyielding belief in educating our youth, he established the Mahogany Youth Corporation, Inc., a non-profit program designed to teach youth the art of sport fishing and safe boating. Because of his work, he became a nominee for The Stephen P Clark Award — for outstanding community leadership by a minority business.
In 2003, the organization added hunting and camping activities to the list of annual events and officially became Mahogany Outdoors, Incorporated. Although Sport fishing and boating-safety remain a primary focus for both adults and youth events, Mahogany Outdoors' focus is more on exposing inner-city youth (ages 5-18) and enhancing the quality of life for adults through outdoor activities, tournaments, and seminars throughout the Southern Florida area.
